Technologies

I work at Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids, teaching classes taht are mainly related to technology. In a typical class each student has their own computer. In terms of Software, it's a Microsoft shop for office productivity. Each classroom has a projector with a screen at the front of the room, and some of the larger classrooms have a microphone and speakers for presenting. We use the SumTotal LMS application for Learning Management; students enroll in classes there, are graded, and track their permanent transcript. I design Computer Based Training modules using the Articulate Software.

This is all the technology I need in my role. If I have additional needs, I can occasionally requisition them.

Since the classes I teach are on technology, the interactions I have with my students are frequently about technology. Since I am the first "technology" instructor many of them have had, I do occasionally have to deal with their frustrations with having to learn more in their current roles.

My overall goal in pursuing my Masters degree is to take concepts from an Adult & Higher Education degree and apply them to a professional development context in my current role. Many of the people I deal with consider themselves to be "computer illiterate" and so I think ideas of introducing and integrating technology will be useful to me.

This is a Practice Post

I am making a practice post to my blog, as requested by my professor Sean Lancaster.
